The japanese here pronounce it as Schuer or Sure even thought phonectically it should be pronounced as Shu Re in japanese. When I bought my E5c, I must have gestured like 20 times before they knew what I was talking about. Luckily a Sony is still called a Sony.
I remember seeing some international ads on a flight many years ago for some Sony products (there were several different Sony ads, some run consecutively) where the ads ended with the voiceover "It's a Sony." The Sony was pronounced more like "sawny" than "sohny", which kinda threw me.
I've always wondered where in the world Sony is pronouced "sawny".
