Will my new Drop HD6xx top end improve with time or a better cable?
They sound congested and bass heavy. I am very focused on detail and top end so my opinion of the 650 might surprise some people.
Should I hang in there or move on?

You bought the wrong headphones if that is your preference. HD650 profile is not detailed or top end focused. They are mids & mid bass heavy.

I think what you want is HD800/800S sound profile. Even the HD600 wouldn’t satisfy you.
