Are the Logitech Z-2300 a synergistic match for a Sony PS3 (gaming, dvd, Blu-Ray, all via Sony analog breakout cable)?

I own a 60 GB Sony PS3 and recently purchased a Samsung LN46A550.

Picture is wonderful, but speakers really suck (in particular, I have to put subtitles on to enhance intelligibility of movies).

How synergistic a match is the Logitech Z-2300 to Sony PS3 (RCA analog outputs)?

In particular, is dialogue easily intelligible during movies, and do these speakers not make your ears bleed even after prolonged viewing session?

And is PS3 optimized for 5.1 (gaming, dvds, Blu-Rays), or is the downmix to 2.1 excellent enough that a true 5.1 channel system such as Z5500 is not necessary (this is a bedroom system and don't want all of those unnecessary wires to rear channels, if I an avoid it).
