hey there, i just wanted to do some last minute check ups to see if i should pull the trigger on the ad900's.

uses ill be using these for:
-gaming
-web surfing (youtube videos and audio related stuff)
-some music, not much tho, if i listen to music, its thru my fuze and ie7's.

ill be upgrading from hd595's.

i hear these are better than the ad700 (which my friend has) in all ways? is that true?

im basically checking to see if these are good for all arounders i suppose and good soundstage for gaming?

pricing:

im willing to pay around 300 so ive seen.

what sites are good to buy from? i notice amazon has them for 400 bucks.

i have noticed this seller on ebay, not sure if legit tho, seems legit to be honest.

Audiio Technic Dynamic Headphone ATH-AD900 Import Japan - eBay (item 120466220534 end time Oct-04-09 11:16:11 PDT)

the thing is, itll be comming from japan so it would take a bit longer to arrive -.-

thanks in advanced!

EDIT: btw, i will NOT be amping these, they will run straight out of my computer.

Very strange, I bought mine from Wall Street Photo via Amazon, and they sold for 274.... Maybe Musician's Friend (the other online vendor) is out of stock, and they just felt like price gauging. But you should not be paying anything upstream of 280 for these.

Hmm I'm not sure if you're gonna get a kick out of the AD900's as they don't produce headshaking bass that you might enjoy out of a movie or a game, but I absolutely LOVE them for music, any kind actually. Was a tad disappointed by my inability to resolve the imaging of the headphones (not the headphone's fault, head fi members were singing its praises). But that may be because I'm running them off of on board sound.

No difficulty in driving these cans amp free, as donunus said.

From what I've read the soundstage in the AD700 is actually slightly larger, so I was assume that it's at least as large as the AD900. And they can be had much cheaper. Here's a pair for $70.

Yeah, I would just get AD700s for what you want to do. And $400 for AD900s is insane.

I think even $250 is too much for those. Around $150-$200 would be more like it, imo.

From my experience, the AD900 and the AD700 have comparable soundstage. In some songs, the AD900 has a weee bit more. I believe the user who commented that the 700 had more later retracted his statement and claimed that the 900 indeed had more.

The AD900 is definitely a good upgrade from the 700. It's considerably more detailed while retaining that airy and smooth signature. Vocals are also more forward. I always felt that a inherent weakness of the 700 was the recessed mids.

And did I mention that the 900s are sexy as hell?

Bought mine from Musician's Friend. I believe they're currently out of stock at the moment though.

The ad700s soundstage are a little larger probably because of the slightly recessed upper mids. But yah the ad700 is a ridiculously great value. The look and feel of the ad900 is a big upgrade though and so is the bolder vocals

hmm i see. thanks for ur guys's responses, i appreciate it. i think imma go with the ad900's tho because i wana get something other than my friend haha and i think the ad900's are a lot better looking than the ad700.

based on the other reviews that ive searched up and seen, it looks like the ad900's come out on top of the ad700's. im upgrading from hd595's so u have to keep that in mind.

is $280 a fair price for these? i believe userlander says that 250 dollars is too much for these, did u get urs used? everywhere i look it seems that 270 to 280 is the price around now.

I honestly think that they're worth the $280 that I paid for them.

Relatively speaking, my MS1s for $100 blow them away in every category except soundstage (and super-forward vocal mids, if you like that). I didn't, so that's why I said for me I couldn't imagine paying more than $150-200 tops.

When you consider you could get HD600s for that same $280 (although you'd need an amp), I just can't see the AT's being worth as much as they go for retail. That's just my opinion, though -- I think most owners of the headphones would disagree with me and say they are worth $280+.

I'll have to warn the OP though....The 900s needs some burn in to sound good. At first, my 1.5 year old AD700s had more bass than these. Now owned them for about two weeks and the sound is a lot more balanced. They just sound right to my ears.

hmm i see thanks for the help guys.

and to userlander, i respect ur opinion on that. i had a similar view on the ATH-ES7's a while back. a ton of ppl thought they were really good value and comfy and sounded great and all that so i gave them a shot. to me, they were REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE, hurt like hell to me and such. it was unbearable for me. i sold them 2 months later.
