Hi we all use rca and 3.5 or 6 mm connectors for most of our gear
Are these really the best connections? What about using a different
Connections that aren't normally used for audio or using binding posts
With bare wire? Any thoughts or has anyone tried a different connector?

How about XLR plugs/jacks?
They seem to be crafted for heavy use, and unlike TRS don't short when plugging in/out.

I thought XOR was only any use for a balanced setup? Maybe I'm wrong I just want better connection without spending a fortune on very expensive plugs if you ever look at some very old hifi gear there are no rca and in some cases just screw fittings to bare metal even on headphones. Are RCA's etc purely for convenience and apart from direct solder is there an ideal connector?

There is nothing wrong with rca and jack plugs. For rca you can get Neutrik profi's. The ground makes contact first instead of positive.

The very best connection is a soldered one. But since that isn't always possible, high quality XLR or RCA (if its unbalanced) will do the job just fine.
