Are IEM's/Earbuds a bad choice for movies?

They would be plugged into an A/V receiver.
 
Do any have an open sound like an open back headphone?
 
I'd like something that sounds as good or better than my KSC75, budget about $30.

Some AVRs headphone output is not optimum for low impedance headphones, like most IEMs. Since you already have the AVR, you could always try it and see how they sound :)

No. IEMs will not typically have the big soundstage of most open headphones.

With a $30 budget you should probably shoot for best overall sound.
