I own the Apple canal phones and a pair of Ety's. I can wear either but the Ety's need to be inserted much deeper, (second bend), whereas the apple don't really benefit from deep insertion.
The stock tips on the apple units will fit most people and more than one pair will fit but they are quite delicate and prone to ripping. The Ety's seal very snug and deep and get more comfortable as they warm up in your ear.(Can hurt removing the Ety's due the seal). Both EQ well so if you have an iPhone / touch get the free Denon app or buy Equalizer. Both may need a little extra bass especially the Ety's.
I have not tried the shures but fit should not be a problem with most of their range.
