After reading numerous cable threads and reviews I have seen it mentioned several times that 2.5mm balanced connectors are regarded by some as physically inferior to standard 3.5mm jacks, and this is driving the industry towards adopting the 4.4mm standard.

Are 2.5mm jacks really so fragile and/or poorly performing or is the backlash overblown?

2.5 mm is light and Durability is normal but not fragile at all.

It is just 4.4 mm is tighter and looks stronger.

I think the main difference is SQ. 4.4 mm has more plug area than 2.5mm's so it creates fuller and sometimes thicker sound. (As comparing amp3 vs amp4 ibasso dx200)

Snagged my earphone wire around a door handle as I was walking by the other day. An innocent move on my part, and the 2.5mm jack broke...along with the jack receptacle on my DAP. Never had that happen on 3.5mm.

Next balanced cable will be 4.4mm for me. Mostly because the I think the jack receptacle will be more structurally sound.

Just my .02$
