.

i have some questions about the Archos Gmini 402.

now ive read in the CNet review that the max volume could be a little louder. i like my music and movies loud sometimes,so is this thing quiet or is it fine in this department?

ive checked up on the battery replacement for longer life too, does anyone know where i could purchase one of them?

lastly, i remember finding a forum dedicated to this series but i seem to have lost the site, could anyone provide me with a link?

thanks for all the help!

The 402 is a bit quiet, but it shouldn't be a big problem unless you want to use high impedance headphones. I use the sr60 with my songs mp3gained at 93db, and I listen between 60-70 volume (out of 99).

The volume of movies are okay if you listen through headphones, but the low output is much more apparent if you use the tv out function. However, you can use a program called "virtualdub" to boost the volume of video files. You'll probably have to use virtualdub anyway because a lot of videos on the internet are encoded using vbr mp3s, and you'll need to run them through virtualdub to convert the mp3s to cbr in order to avoid audio lag.

The battery can be found on ebay. It's the same kind that's sold on ebay for generation 1-3 ipods. I believe it ships from Hong Kong, and it should cost about $17 total shipped to the U.S.

The site you're referring to is www.gmini400.com, but I'm not sure it'll be back up because I've noticed that it's been down for the past several days.

P.S. if it would help, i could get on of those Cmoys off of a friend.

you wanna search ebay for a 2200 mAh capacity battery, itll give 20 odd hours playback worked a charm in my gmini400. a cmoy will increase the quality of the headout on the gmini, but only without any bass or treble boost settings applied, youll need decent cans too.

The Archos 402 could be louder if using Sony 51 or 71 buds, but, you would go deaf when using Sennheiser MX500 or CX 300's past 90%. The output rating is higher on the Sennheisers, so it depends on what you get. Basically, I make sure the output rating is higher than the Sony buds.
