I own an Archos 504 w/ 160 GB version. It has a proprietory connector/cable coming out of the Archos and connect to the computer via standard usb connection. I recently also purchased a Predator which will take a mini usb from source. So my question is whether it is possible to have a digital out from the 504 into the Predator Dac.

Secondly, can anyone give me an idea how the Archos 504 compare to Ipod 5 in SQ. Thank you.

No, you can't use the USB out. Archos doesn't allow a new sound card like that.

You could theoratically get SPDIF out from the Archos 4 and 5 series, but good luck on soldering that.

Archos isn't the best company for SQ, but I think it's as good an as un-rockboxed-un-iModded-iPod because of the simple EQ you get on it. It's probably fine to use.

Thanks for the feedback. On the docks of the archos, there is a digital out labled SPDIF and it looks like a RCA type. Is that the coax connection? and is there a way to connect digitally to any device through this spdif out?
