Archos 32 RMAA Tests

The Archos 32 is fine with dynamic driver IEMs, craps out a bit with difficult multi-armature IEMs with crossovers (due to some output impedance), but has generally very nice measurements. In a volume-matched AB test I couldn't hear any audible difference compared to the Cowon J3 or Sansa Clip+. Crosstalk looks a bit high on the Archos, but I didn't hear any difference. Bass roll-off is lower than on Cowon or iriver players. Still, that's not audible anyways.

Seems that Archos has come a long way to improve their SQ,...I'm definitely getting either an Archos 43 or 70 now, thanks!!!

dfkt, what are your overall impressions on this device (form factor, usability, SQ, performance/lag)?  I'm now having problems with my 2nd J3 and growing frustrated with Cowon.

Sorry to hear about your J3 issues (read them in the J3 thread). Too bad, since I have no issues whatsoever, and it's clearly the best player I could wish for. Hopefully it's just the cable, and can be sorted out easily.

Thanks for the RMAA stuff dfkt. Today I was trying to produca a DIY usb host cable for the Archos 32 without success. I have to buy one... seems that it needs micro type A form of usb. Still not sure about it.
 
I am pretty satisfied with the Archos player. Honestly did not expect it to sound that good. Only two things are bugging me: the display is not so good and lack of sd card slot.

The display is horrible. Even my Sony Clie TH55 from 2001 (or so) has a vastly superior screen. Switching from the A32 to the Cowon J3 is like going from a Commodore 64 monitor to an IBM T221. Nevertheless, for the extremely low price, the A32 manages to be extremely snappy and responsive, doesn't hiccup with multitasking, and generally performs amazingly well as an "Internet Tablet", as Archos calls it. It's a neat and zippy toy, just not the best audio or video player out there.
 
The Archos 43 already fixes some of the major shortcomings of the A32 - a 4.3" 854x480 screen, and an SD slot. I would definitely get a 43 over a 32.

OK, that's it... the J3's going back and there will be either an A43 or A70 on my doorstep soon.

Bear in mind that the A43, A70 and A101 all use the a 1 GHz processor and the A32 and A28 use an 800 MHz processor.
 
It's a pretty good article with interesting videos and equally impressive benchmark results.

Well, TBH, I have a real good deal w/a great seller going - I'm getting first quality stuff at a wonderful discount. Great guy, glad he agreed to wait for me to get the funds together.
