Hey everybody, first post after lurking this most excellent board for a while!

I need to put some order into my music, right now I have some 300 CD's ripped to mp3 at different bitrates spread out over 2 computers and one external harddisk.

(...and I also have SonicStage running on one puter with 200 CD's feeding a HD5, a great player btw.)

Anyhow, I was thinking of getting another external USB-harddisc and re-rip all my CD's to flac first, in order to have a lossless archive of all my music. I'd then probaly want to re-rip my portable music from the flac files to high quality mp3 files.

Is this feasible and what software would I need? Is there a perceivable difference in sound quality between using, say WMP for ripping as oppsed to other programs? (i.e which encoder makes best mp3's?)

Does this make sense or should I just keep the mp3's that I have and bundle them together on one harddisc and be done with it?

Thanks for any input, experience and whatnot!
