my MB is scheduled for delivery later today so i'll check on it...but macs have traditionally had big-perfect digital outputs, so i would expect the same with the MB.

I played with a new black Macbook at CompUSA today. The screen was alright; I wouldn't say I liked it any better or worse than the screen on my Macbook Pro. The keyboard on the otherhand I found to be awful. It felt so cheap, like there was too much flex in the keys.

I had been debating waiting on the release of the Macbooks rather than getting my Macbook Pro, but I'm glad I went ahead and went with it. And by the way, it has been totally problem free, even Boot Camp and XP have worked great.

(typing this on an MB in apple store, i hope the logoff button really works). With diffuse overhead lighting (designed to make product look good, of course), the monitor's rpetty nice. The keyboard is kinda irritating, it's got kind of a stiff key action til you bottom out and it just releases tension (kinda like a mountain bike fork and stiction). And, like almost all other laptop kb's, Control and Alt are only on the left side (this is important if you program in Emacs) 1st imporession: I don't think i'd want to be working on this for 10 hours/day.

And (very important): these things are pretty hot. Not scalding hot like the 1st MB pros, but the upper left hand corner of the MB is warm thru the keyboard.

No problem! The list has been updated again:

There's so many out now I can hardly keep up with them. A member of the MacNN forums has compiled a photo listing with prices and ship dates here:

Personally, I'm going with a Booq Mamba S vertical shoulder bag and a red corduroy Foof sleeve. The Foof is for when I just need to grab it and go and the Booq is for trips, school, work, etc. Bag technology has come a long way since I was in grade school lol.

That's a truly fantastic list of links. Very informative.

You might want to add this one, from O'Reilly:

Even though it's mainly about the Macbook Pro, it's a counterpoint to a lot of the noise that's been floating around on SomethingAwful about the thermal paste. Looks like the thermal paste might be a non-issue after all, though who's to say really for sure.

Those foof bags look neat, but their site layout is terrible! I can't find any full size images of their bags on their site.

Hopefully my local computer store will get more of the Macbooks in stock soon so I can check one out in person.

Kugino, any impressions about your Macbook yet? Screen? Keyboard?

i used a test audio file that i previously used to check the bit-perfectness of the air express...unsurprisingly, the audio out of the MB is bit-perfect, as macs generally are.

having used my MB for a few days now, here are some impressions:

- glossy screen is nice. not the distracting glare that many seem to think. i like it.
- keyboard is firm and responsive...nothing to worry about.
- this thing runs HOT. yes, it's been said before, but it needs to be said again...much hotter than my previous ibook.
- trackpad is a bit unresponsive compared to the ibook. my single clicks don't always register...so i need to work on my trackpad tapping again...
- the edges are SHARP. yes, my wrists and forearms definitely feel the edges of the MB as i type...
- it's really thin.
- it's wide...but the 19:10 resolution makes widescreen movies look great without having too much black space above and below.
- magnetic latch and magnetic power plug work as described.
- speakers are crap (probably to be expected)...can barely hear music or movies with sound up all the way. headphone out sounds okay, though...

let me know if you have any questions...

kaidomac, have you seen the booq mamba s bag yet? it looks nice, but for $100 i want to make sure it's what i want. i'm also waiting around for crumpler to update their line of bags for the MB, but i don't know how long they'll take...many of the bags won't be available until july/august, which is a long wait for me...i want to pick up a bag now...hmmm...

Grrrrr. MacBook arrived today with a trackpad issue. Because it was a custom configuration it has to go back to be fixed.
