Apple Lightning Dock Adapter - Abandon all hope, all ye who enter

Wow, I didn't realize the Lightning cord for the corded adapter was so fat from all the extra goods inside.  I definitely messed up getting the one piece dock adapters though.  They don't fit into most cases (had to dremel my case) whereas the Lightning plug on the corded adapter would be fine...plus in a car you have a huge thing coming off of the bottom of the phone for an LOD so it's hard to fit it into the top part of a center console.

It appears that they omitted the part that did the audio decoding in the Chinese one, kind of a bad deal...it's just their Lightning plug that they use in the USB cables, wired to the 30 pin dock connector.  That is hilarious.

Hi all,

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd update it with some missing info.  I found this thread after searching for a solution to the 3.5mm jack audio problem with the iPhone 5.  I'm glad to say that I found the solution to getting audio out from the lightning connector from here. iSimple makes another Lightning RCA DAC but I was not sure of the quality of the DAC in that and the cost was about $50.  Also, the breakdown here was more than I could have hoped for.

Regarding the DAC that the 30pin adapter uses, here are the specs from Wolfson: from here http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/products/dacs/ to here: http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/products/dacs/stereo-dacs/wm8533/

Hope this helps!

I love seeing these threads revived. So are you saying that the iSimple sounds good?

I haven't received either the Lightning to 30 Pin converter and cable yet, or the iSimple.  I will update after I give both a listen.

here is the iSimple for reference:

Hey @RCONSTRUCT, please do update when you've had a chance to check them out. I tried a Fiio E17 with a USB CCK and it worked perfect except for the battery drain. I'm looking for a better solution, and I'm hoping this may be it. Thanks!
