Looking at Mike's photos is STILL deceptive for mine:

Its only when you look at the thing in Tyll's hand in the YouTube vid that the penny drops:

Either Tyll is the size of Mt Rushmore, or that is one very small 'desktop' amp. I'm thinking from the vid 'This cant be any bigger than the original Lisa III !'. Sure, its mains-powered, but thats no impediment to my 'ultimate transportable rig' dream. How does the sound compare to the 'big boy' amps that will never leave your house ? Beats me, but for 495 USD its cheaper than many of Ray's portable amps, and not a whole lot bigger.

Thoughts ?

Do you mean the external aesthetics, or the amp's topology ? Personally, I really like the simplicity of whats 'under the hood' - I suspect the DiYers might tell me that its not a lot of parts for $500 retail, but that holds for almost every amp I can think of.

Are you saying Todd's Butte looks ugly ? Man, that's just harsh :D

The joke was offered on a silver platter though :D
But even joke aside, I really don't think it looks good.

I would buy one if I didn't have a small amplifier.

I've been reviewing one for the last couple weeks. I'll see if I can write up my thoughts in the next few days.

Thanks Armaegis - I had a feeling someone here might be taking one for the team. We arent all fashion victims like khaos974 ! :p

I think my amp review is going to be significantly shorter than my upcoming portables shootout...

I will be posting my review this weekend in the Butte loaner thread.  It's essentially the size of an Xbox controller.  In my opinion it's a fantastic little amp for the office or nightstand.  It scales well with one's high-end sources and headphones.  Stay tuned.....

No problem, I found that the listening experience depended on the source and headphones so there was synergy with some gear and not others.  That's the great thing about reviews, different perspectives based on different gear.  Looking forward to your thoughts on the Butte in the upcoming days.

I'm afraid I will be less enthusiastic in my review.
