As far as I can tell, where both lose out is on software features, i.e. ID3 tag support, ease of display. And when it comes to MP3s, the display is PARTICULARLY important and can make or break the player regardless if it had a 5000mw amp or 5000 sec antiskip or whatever. So I think neither one is a good buy. The Panasonic looked cool until I heard its software side wasn't so good...then I waited for Sony, but now I hear reports that the Sony's software isn't any better. So it looks like the Rio 250 wins.

Vertigo,
I am sure that sony does equip with id3 tags display. So, I think the sony is sure compromising. The pana doesn't support the text display though...and should be real pain in the neck to search through 100+ songs.
