Anyone substitue a dual op amp with twin singles?

I've glued two singles to fit in one 8 pin DIP socket, thereby making it a dual.
...because I did not have the dual version of the chip:

The advantage of this is smaller size and room for decoupling caps, both holemounted and SMD and also thicker copper traces. You can also connect ground for better decoupling.
