I know a guy that has a set of mackie HR824 mark Is. I've listened to these a long time ago, but that was before I became a 'audiophile' and I don't really remember what they sounded like. Has anyone here had/listened to them? General overview of their sound signature and all that perhaps?

I'm guessing that these are going to be the closest thing to higher-end cans that I will be able to audition without actually dumping some serious cash on some equipment, so it'd be nice to see what it's like above low-mid-fi.

yes, these are studio monitors. pretty nice, and hard to do better for the size (except perhaps with pricier BBC monitors), but I retired them in favor of magneplanars... and headphones!

as I heard mackie is not really good in monitors. not bad of course but I would consider the brands with more credit in speaker business.

still if you do not want to invest large amount of cash you could get a good bargain for them. they're are not bad monitors at all.
