I have my eye set on a pair of HD540s for around $160ish, and am wondering if they are worth it. They are in perfect condition.

Yeah, it's a decent Senn headphone, nice soundstage, detail & co. and built like a tank, but you could do MUCH better gettting a HD 580 while they're still around. Especially at the price you're mentioning....ahem...I payed less than 100$ mint in Germany.

High impedance cans, need some amping. They're best at jazz and small acoustic bands. I found they lacked balls, though.

I had the HD540II's I picked up at a thrift store for $5. They were great
sounding headphones (especially for the price!) with absolutely no low end, so I gave them to a friend.

I have the 540II's and while I feel they are nice headphones I don't think they are worth that much. I think I got a good deal when I paid $50 for them on ebay.

I agree with syncmaster68 aboutthe 580s

I've just noticed in your signature that you already have the HD 580's, so why bother with some overpriced inferior siblings???
