I got an iPhone today and I've been unsuccessfully trying to get it activated w/o going through the normal route on iTunes and activating through AT&T. I did find some step by step directions, but I couldn't get them to work.

So, anyone who has done it care to share your tips?

btw, please don't delete this thread or view this as I'm trying to cheat someone (namely AT&T) as I do have AT&T service and will activate my iPhone on their service in the very near future (within the next two weeks) I just need to wait for other things to happen first and would like to use my iPhone for the iPod and wifi capabilities in the meantime.

On the contrary, I think AT&T cheated you by selling the iphone at full retail price and yet still locked it down to their network. Normally locked phones are sold at subsidized price.. Did you try the software hack yet or are you trying the hardware route?

YES! I have T-Mobile working on more than a few iPhones.
