Hey guys, I am in the market for a DAP and have been trying to do research and peak around and ask questions in the different threads for devices and while doing so, trying to find out what is compatable with said DAPs and trying to find a device that supports a lossless quality streaming service that has the ability to download the music and listen to it offline from the device.

Now for the most part, everyone is talking about Tidal and I started a free trial of that this morning and it has a lot of music on there that I am looking for in better quality than what I was getting on spotify or just going to youtube, and seems to have more of a selection of albums for me to pick from and I thought this was great, Tidal seems most compatible with DAPs and I thought that was going to be that.

I recently read about "Deezer" on reddit and started a free trial of it and this, imo for me, looks even better than Tidal. Has more music that I am into and looking for, and has a lot bigger of a selection. One band I like has 2 albums on spotify, on Tidal they have 2 albums and 3 EPs, on Deezer they have "11 Albums" (albums/EPs included there) and just seem to have overall a bigger selection for some of my more favorite bands that I am looking for.

Do people have any experience with Deezer, is it a pretty good service and if people have used it before, are they happen with it? My other big thing, is is Deezer (preferably HiFi playback) compatible with any DAPs out there? AK seem to only run their own version of android and from my understanding do not have access to the app store, does anyone know if there is a DAP that is good quality and not too too expensive, that I would be able to use Deezer on to it's full potential? The kicker and biggest thing is that I need the DAP to also have the functionality of working as a USB DAC when connected to a PC which seems to narrow options down quite a bit.

Can anyone assist me with their opinions or if anyone knows if what I am looking for is even possible or if I should stick to looking into Tidal?

+1 just tried Qobuz trial no output from dac so like Spotify you can't stream content through a USB dac would like to know of any streaming source or app that can actually make use of higher quality external dacs

Yeah I'm just seeing this same issue myself with Deezer. What. What is the point of the desktop app bypassing your USB DAC drivers? This is insane.

I listen to Deezer using their windows app using my Sanskrit DAC and Atom amp fine.... not sure if that's what you're asking

I'm only on family plan - not HiFi tho

I think Deezer is talking directly to the Windows sound system and not using the DAC drivers. If you select Standard / Better / Hifi on your deezer app (and restart it each time to be sure) does your DAC show any difference in the sample rate?

I can see the sample rate that the DAC gets is set by the Windows default audio settings, not by the Deezer app. In comparison, foobar and the Tidal app talk directly to the DAC drivers and you can see the sample rate change when you change the app settings or play different files.

I don't have an output rate display on my dac - so not sure if there's a method to see what it's doing from within windows

I mean don't forget - all Deezer HiFi is playing are FLAC files at CD quality (16-bit, 1,411Kbps)
Not like they're sending DSD's or even 24/96

Well that's the claim, sure. But we should be able to verify it ;)

Anyway, I have most kinds of files and 2 of my USB DACs are able to show me the details. Playing over Deezer on Windows it seems impossible to know because Windows sound system is processing it.
