I was looking around for information on the K340 and ended up browsing through the Headphone Database Site: http://www.warzone.org/headphones/

Has anyone had any experience with the following models?:

K241
K260
K280

I thought that they all looked interesting.

philodox: K241 seems to be a variant of the original K240, which also had that headband with circular holes. K280 and K270S were more or less the same thing, iirc - I'm not much of a fan of these. Cant's comment on the K260, though - I've never heard or seen that one.

midlife: HD 1000 ("Charleston") was a special model based on the HD 480, iirc.

Greetings from Hannover!

The AKG K280 is my all-time favorite headphone, hands down. These were parabolic cans with an "acoustical lens", featuring 4 angled drivers. Kind of hard to describe the sonic effect, but it works extremely well. Very accurate, has tight bass, and a spacious soundstage. They absolutely crushed the K240's.

I have no idea why these never caught on. I guess that people found them too pricey. A shame that AKG ceased production on them, as I think they're one of AKG's best designs, period. I have 5 pairs of them in my studio, and one at home. I snatched them up when the news came through that they were discontinued.

If you encounter a pair, give them a listen. You'll want them, believe me!

Pepzhez... thanks for the info. If you ever want to get rid of one of the 5 sets in your studio then let me know.

EDIT: Out of curiosity have you heard any other AKG headphones that you can compare them to? You mentioned the K240, but have you heard the K271, the K340 or the K1000? Thanks.

Larry was also making me a custom cable that I can use to connect my archos av320 to my aos flute [still waiting to recieve that as well]. The 4 conductor mini that will connect to the av320 took a while to arrive. He said that it will likely ship out tomorrow. It worked out well though as this gave him more time to tweak the k340 and try out some other ideas. I think that the delay should actually add some value to the headphones.

I always thought that the K240 sounded murky. The K271 didn't sound much better to me. Never heard the K340.

The K1000's are an entirely different breed. Less headphones than small speakers that envelop your ear. Extremely inefficient, expensive, difficult to power, impractical for use as monitors.... But they sound amazing.

Yeah, people covet their K280's. I've never even seen them come up on ebay.

dont know what people mean by k271s aren't worth they're money. long ago i read one headfi user even state is not detailed and hd280 was better value. but i heard the k501, k340, and now i just got the k271s. i think its very up to par with those two and being closed too. these are quite detailed around. i find increase impedence give it a warmer desirable sound than being a bit cold.

Pepzhez... what sort of amplification do you generally use with your headphones? Calling the K240A or the K271S murky makes me think that perhaps they were not being driven to their potential. They are anything but murky.

terrymx... I also find it strange. That anyone could say the hd280 is better value is laughable to me.

Well, the K280's certainly sound interesting. If I ever get the chance to try them I definately will. For now I eagerly anticipate the arrival of my K340's.
