Anyone (going to) hear both the AT W5000 and Sony SA5000?

This thread will probably die very quickly, but reading the preliminary impressions of the W5000 makes me think that the sound might be very similar to the Sony SA5000. I'm probably completely wrong, but that's my gut reaction, having heard neither headphone.

If anyone has the chance to compare these two, even briefly at some point, I'm sure there are others that would like to know.

Hi radrd,

W5000 (~100 hrs) when compared with SA5000, it has the following characterisitcs:

1. Slower in speed and slightly more decay between notes.
2. Midrange is more prominant.
3. Less bass quantity and lacks the impact.
4. Treble carries less energy
5. More open and airy imaging

A few components in my system have changed since I had a pair SA5000, so please take that with a fistful of salt.

Thanks Overlunge, I wish you had them both now to compare and even with a lot of salt thrown in, the SA5000 is looking like one I should try.

This is the exact question I've been wondering.

I love the SA5000s, but I can't help wishing they had just a little bit more musicality and soundstaging, so if they W5000s can do that without losing too much detail and transient responce in the process they'd be brilliant.

Seeing as we're both in the same country, maybe one day you could lend me your W5000s and in exchange I'll lend you my hopefully-soon-to-be-paid-off HE60s. Assuming it's okay with you of course.
