Anyone here on the board familiar with such panasonic models as SL-S170 - SL-SXX? If so, how do they sound? My friend has a 1995 model and maybe I could buy it from him since he barely uses it.

I had the SL-SX510, which came directly after the SL-SX500 that many enjoy (good battery life and pretty decent sound). The SX510 was a bit thin by comparison, mainly because they boosted the battery life somewhat from the SX500. In fact, I actually have the SX510's circuit board sitting on my desk from when it died not too long ago...

Anyways, some of the recent Sony PCDPs are better than the recent Panasonics, but the SX500 at least is pretty good. Can't specifically comment on the SL-S** models though.

I have an SL-S470C:

I've retired it from normal use, but it served me well over the years. The headphone output is listed as less powerful than my SL-SX500 - but it sounds good. I'm not sure which model you're considering, but this one was high quality.

i wud like to suggest u the ct570, it sounds better than most recent sony's.
