I want to buy my first DAP. I narrowed it down to the iPod Shuffle and the iriver U10. The U10 i like more because of its Display. But can the Sound Quality hold up with the Shuffle´s ?

Does anyone own the iriver U10 and can say anything to its sound quality ? Is it comparable with the sound of the big HD DAPs like the ZVM ?

Yes. The U10 has excellent sound quality all-around. I'd even go as far as to say that (to my ears) it sounds better than the Shuffle (1G, at least).

It sounds very similar to the Creative Zen Vision:M, but has a little more clear and articulate bass and isn't quite as bright.

Depending on where you live also look for iRiver clix (I think it's more or less the same player, don't know the difference.)

Are they really similair price? The iRiver U10 of course

Thank you for your answers. Good to know that it sounds better than the shuffle.

From what i've read, the clix does sound a bit better than the U10. But unfortunately the clix has several issues with its battery, like never switching off or only recharging through the Windows Media Player, or even worse one isnt able to switch it to UMS, whereas the U10 you can.

I got a U10 for my cousin's birthday. I spent a bit listening to a bunch of player and that one had the better of the sound quality, screen size, price etc.

I have the Shuffle and don't use it any more really. I would've gotten U10 myself but ended up with iAudio U3 since it had a wee bit more features. What annoye me most about the shuffle is that it's treble isn't refined and it sounds much thinner.

I guess this is what it means! I may be mistaken, but could someone confirm here?

Isn't this will allow you to drag n drop and create your own folders?

Makes it seem like you can switch between them, atleast for some players, maybe not for the Clix?

Yea right it is hot, but i do not know where to buy it, do you? I do not think so. But i have seen your F2-is-great Postings in other threads too. Nobody asked about iAudio here. I do not know if you are affilated with iaudio or if you just a troll, just let it be...

Ian: Thanks for your advise! Much appreciated. BTW, i was in the local media store in munich but the U10, the Vision M and the shuffle all were without energy. The only DAPs working were the Nano and the 5g.

Of course.

I asked a staff member to turn the U10 on for me, but i he couldnt find the cable and he wasnt really sorry for that. Meanwhile a hysterical woman looking like a well known deseased domestic pornostar shouted at her boy, or was it a girl? They ended up taking the Nano from over 100 players in display.

What else. They were the only players running.

I then went to a bookstore to acquire a C++ book, and they sell the ipods there too. And only the ipods. "Think different" ? Well that slogan seems a bit outdated too me.

Ups... offtopic. Sorry.

Basic Differences between the iRiver Clix and U10
(quoted from misicriver)

Clix:
MTP file transfer only
supports album art
requires WMP10 to charge through usb.
updated Cpu and ram
supports flashlite 2.0
laggy flash games
faster ui
shiney back casing

U10:
UMS and MTP file transfer
slow UI
back casing isnt shiney
flashlife 1.1 only
faster flash games

Convert your U10 to UMS

http://www.iriver.eu.com/mtp.html?&L...161b813848ffe1

I also read that the UMS filesystem is more stable than the proprietary Microsoft invented Media Transfer Protocol. I must say i am not surprised.

More about the Media Transfer Protocol (MTP)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Transfer_Protocol

Use alternative Flash Interface / Backgrounds for U10

Now this one is really really cool, fellow readers..
