If so do you find the sound quality truly awful and distorted?

My CD sounds terrible and whilst the music seems nice it takes a real act
of will power to sit through the CD.

Wow, I'm actually listening to that album right now! Yes, all of the Delgados albums are VERY poorly recorded, but the music itself is very good. I'm surprised more people here havent heard of them..

All the albums are like that!!
Why can that be?The quality is truly awful, beyond picky audiophile stuff,
really distorted, I can see no merit in producing a sound like this.
It actually angers me that basically good music is assaulted in this way.
If someone trashed my artwork in this way I would get real violent urges

I have their Universal Audio cd, I haven't listened to it in a while but i don't remeber it sounding awfull.

Well, Universal Audio is slightly better than the others, but the highs are distorted, and there is no low bass at all. The albums were obviously recorded to sound good on the lowest end audio gear available.

Do you think it is possible they just didn't have the budget to record a good album. It could have been a poor studio, engineer mastering... Just a thought. Whatever the case I still love their music.
