Yeah, I have a bunch of pictures from different sources on the 'net, and want to back them up to a data disc. Problem is, the pictures only appear in the proper order when "arranged by modified" under windows, and if I back them up, they'll revert to alphabetical order. Is there a program or something can automatically rename the files to keep the "arranged by modified" order?

Irfanview should be able to do this.

Go to File > Batch Conversion/Rename

That will bring up the batch conversion panel. From there, select Batch rename, set your naming style preference, and output directory.

Go to the folder with your images with "Look in" and select "Add All".

Click "Sort files" and select "by Date".

Click "Start Batch".

That should allow you to rename the picture files by date modified in ascending or descending order.

If you dont' care too much about what you name the files and want a quick Windows solution try:

- Arrange files in order you want (modified in this case)
- Select All
- Right click on top file
- Rename

The rest of the files should all follow the same name with numbers afterwards.
