Any thoughts on 'Arcade Legends,' or any other arcade machine(s)?

Wow, the price of these things are actually really good--when you think about it (at least compared to other machines; and this one has a lot of built-in games, compared to most home-based (not coin-operated) and coin-operated machine...only thing that beats it in the number of games, is probably the 'Ultracade' machines). If you're interested in getting one of (or both) of these things, I'd reccommend to get the Upright Model for one player, and/or for some space in the house; or the Cocktail Model for two players, and/or for an open area in the house.

Basically I'm just impressed that there was actually a market for home-based arcade machines--it wasn't until recently, that I found out that you can actually buy one (also coin-operated ones) for private use. Some are switchable between coin-operated, and non-coin-operated.

Here's some more good retailers: http://www.superdupergames.com/ http://www.bhmvending.com/index.html http://www.weinerd.com/index.html http://www.dannyveghs.com/coinop.htm?GoTo http://www.vintagearcade.net/ http://eagled.com/arcadegames.htm Perhaps the best store is this one: http://www.arcadegamesuperstore.com/index.html

Another 'wow' from me...you can actually buy a machine (from that last link) that actually plays any and every Xbox game, and more new ones, etc. (supposedly). I'm impressed AGAIN--I don't have an Xbox, but I sure as *** wouldn't mind to play in one of these bad boys (ahhh, 'Capcom Classics Collection' would be one to play....): https://secure11.nexternal.com/share...t=products.asp You can also get a coin-operated version. If you want the Xbox to be two player, you have to buy two systems; and the system plays any game you buy from the store (yes, REGULAR GAMES). An add-on would be the steering wheel. (They should've made other system versions too...).

The only real problem with arcade machines--besides the price, weight, and maybe screen-size options available--is that they take up lots of space and are hard to move (they might take a lot of electricity too...).

The price of the 'Arcade Legends' add-ons is a little too much (I need more games in general, and their expansion packs don't have much games, and there's not much other games to buy for the system...but still, it looks like one of the best values in arcade machines)--if I can ever afford an arcade machine, I would definately consider getting one (or even both) of these monsters (plus they have a bigger screen than 'Arcade Legends'): Well no link for you because I can just say that I'm interested in the 'MAME Arcade Game Machine' (it has a headphone jack!), and the 'Quasicade PRO' (with the 'Quasicade'--I don't think I'm that interested in that Xbox thing anymore... The 'Classicade Arcade System' doesn't look that bad either, but it's not exactly what I want).

If you have the wood, and an old PC laying around you can put together a MAME machine pretty inexpensively. Someday when I finish all the other projects I have been working on since the beginning of time I want to build a MAME machine.

i've been following these kind DIY projects for years, but never worked up the nerve to build one. With access to a good wood shop (a router etc), some good particle board, and some basic parts you can throw one together for alot cheaper then 3 grand? I think that's actually really expensive. Also, alot of arcade games are abandonware nowadays, not saying anything about buying (or stealing roms) but your paying too much for the software in this situation, i'd sooner look at an arcadepc over this if i had to buy one of these.

Also, the novelty of standing up and playing games will kinda wear out after extended use... This will be fun for having a nostalgia session or with company, but to spend such a big chunk of change (if it is to you anyways) i'd really be asking myself how often i wanna play games standing up?

That aside, i think i'd rather build one then pay for an expensive cabinet.

I'm browsing through a couple of those sites and I'm drooling.... I wish I had insane amounts of money to throw away.

I want this one..... very, very badly.

..too bad it costs $19k.

Yeah, they're expensive all right, but the value of 'Arcade Legends' isn't all that bad compared to other machines. And if your fat, I bet you can lose a lot of weight when standing up to play, compared to sitting down--but it's possible to use a chair anyway. I like marketed products more though, just to know that if you don't like something about it, or something is wrong with it, then it's not your fault. I have no experience with building electonic devices or putting that stuff together, and don't want to look up all those parts and assembly instructions...I might even get cut (if I don't buy a cabinet instead), shocked, or start a fire, and I will probably die, because I'm not smart enough to handle the equipment, or strong enough to handle any damage.

Here are some videos that show more details on how some machines look like, and some details on how to set up marketed 'pieces' (only kit pieces, but you get the idea): http://www.retroblast.com/video.html
