She is amazing. I especially love her more "experimental" stuff on the realworld label.

She has incredible control of the pitch and harmonic content of her voice. Since her music is middle-eastern drone based, the melodies are much more involving, moving and not melodically confined to the discordantly butchered 12-tone western system everyone uses.

In my book, she beats out my other favorites Lisa Gerrard and Loreena McKennitt.

her "monsoon: retrospecive" compilation CD is a good place to start, especially from track 6 on. Then abonecronedrone (some of which is on the compilation).

This stuff has the power to open your ears musically.

Equipment with good phase coherence is recommended. My Grados sound ok, but my Beyers bring on the full musical impact.

The Sheila Chandra  albums I have, and love:

Monsoon - Third Eye [1982]
Out On My Own [1984]
Quiet [1984]
The Struggle [1985]
Roots and Wings [1990]
Weaving My Ancestors' Voices [1992]
The Zen Kiss [1994]
Out on My Own (reissue) [2000]
This Sentence Is True (The Previous Sentence Is False) [2001]

I just finished ripping them to FLAC, and am listening to Weaving My Ancestors' Voices on my DX50 & Momentums. It sounds amazing. She's brilliant, but I believe she retired in 2010 due to health reasons.
