Hi guys,

I have to buy some head amp. I have

- AKG K701
- DT880 '05
- SR325
- MS1

(and buying some decent Senns in the near future)

I'm thinking to buy some DAC (cause my main source is my pc) and then some headamp

Well, I know it's hard, because they all are quite different HP, but I would like to buy some headamp that could be "decent" with all of my HP. I was thinking about the Hornet (thats sort of my price range), is it not a good idea?

Any other ideas?

Thanks guys!

Looking at your headphones are you needing an amp for portable use or for strictly home use. I really like my Hornet but for home use I might spend my money on a dedicated home unit.

Well, mainly for home!

i was thinking something like micro DAC -> Hornet -> HP

but would you suggest any other stuff?

Cheers!

All four of those headphones would benefit more from a tube amp than a solid-state IMO. There are some great budget options in the tube arena, keep reading around for them.

I would recommend splitting the budget up a little bit and maybe getting a used MG Head OTL and an e-mu 0404 or Zhalou as your DAC. It would take a bit more space, but we are talking some sweet sweet sounds.

If you're considering the Micro DAC, then just get the Micro stack.

Here are some tube hybrids for you (OP) to consider.

- Used Musical Fidelity X-Can V2: $140 to $190
- Used Musical Fidelity X-Can V3: $300
- Little Litle Dot Micro Tube: $225

If you go the Musical Fidelity Route post because either of the amps benefit from a beefier PSU since the stock 0.5 amp wall wart runs out of steam. Also both benefit from the PinkFloyd Mods.
