A while ago I used the excellent http://www.head-fi.org/a/headphone-buying-guide and got a couple of sets of really nice headphones for pretty cheap, but I can't see anything similar for PC desktop speakers.

I rarely listen to music, but play games a lot. Just about every google result for 'best gaming speakers' gives a different recommendation, is there a recommended Head-Fi guide on PC gaming (without spending hundreds)?

Thanks, the guide is good, but it's for headphones, I've already got some headphones recommended on that list (Koss KSC75, and they are really comfortable), but I'm after some desktop speakers for PC gaming (using a 3.5mm jack). I'm an audio-newbie, so wasn't going to use DAC / AMP, just some 2.0 or 2.1 speakers I could plug into the PC.

I know this forum is more for headphones than speakers, but I was hoping they'd be a desktop gaming speaker guide too.

Yeah I hear ya...If no amp and want to run from computer out you will need powered speakers, and unless you have multiple outputs you will need to plug/unplug when you switch to HPs.I used to have an Altec-Lansing 2.1 system that sounded good for nearfield powered speakers, but theyre discontinued.

Amps like the Schiit Magni Uber 2 has outputs in the rear to amplify and drive powered speakers, and then HP jack in front....actually selling mine.

You can look here

I have zero experience w/ anything on the list though.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm using a Konig 3.5mm switcher ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000WCNF2G/ ) to swap between headphones / speakers at the moment, stuck to the side of my monitor, it's really handy.

I've checked the guide you linked, but the stuff listed is either crazy expensive, or portable bluetooth speakers.

I know this forum is much more focused on headphones than desktop gaming speakers, but after buying headphones recommended by audiophiles on this site, I was hoping to upgrade from my LabTec speakers to something recommended here.

The headphones I purchased were far better than any random brand headphones I'd previously used.
