Well I used my friends ipod shuffle (the lastest one with the clip) and wow, running free handed with a weighless mp3 player attached to my pants felt so great for running. Before I jump the gun on a shuffle, any mp3 plyaer that have a clip or have belt clips acessories. It has to be a light weighted player, and armabands dont work well with me.

plenty of players have optional belt clips or lanyards.

you may want to check out Cowon's or iRiver's necklace-style MP3 players, though I can't recall the model numbers.

I like the 2G shuffle - as an avid runner I've found that the shuffle works perfectly. I think Apple's website has some refurb's for around $50.00

U can also buy a matias armor clip that attaches to anything and is very strong. They also have a lifetime warranty on them. I have it attached to my portable amp.
