What exactly does the HD amp on hi-md units do to audio quality?

I think Sony needs to bring back the megabass features on the new units lol.

Some HD amp afficionados swear by the audio quality but its main purpose was to be more efficient in order to increase battery life.

From the RH1 Promo literature:
Quote:

HD Digital Amplifier More efficient than traditional analog amplifiers by using
less energy to produce the same signal. The audio benefits are higher
resolution sound quality, monitored noise reduction and accurate sound
reproduction.

So in essence it wouldn't be any better than technologies like BBE MP huh?

I'm wondering... before setting off to get my MZ-EH70, do hi-md units have any form of bass boost? I'm wondering.. because my G3 has BBE technology in it and that adds a good amount of bass, Hi-MD in comparison.....?

Another minidisc fan here , got a DH10p, NH1 and a RH710 at the moment (40gb ipod also), i will be selling DH10p this week. The RH710 is a great beginner unit, no mic but has optical in and Mp3 support - i use this the most , NH1 for recording only.
Twinsparx i wish they produced a Hi-MD the same size as the E10 that unit is amazing looking!
Minidisc is becoming a bit like vinyl , i predict it will continue for a while longer, it just sounds very very nice, not bit accurate like your golden eared hydrogen audio buffs want but very easy to listen to.

I’ll jump into the fray by saying back in 2000 there were not many choices for DAP’s or digital MP3 players. So I got my first and only MiniDisc player back in 2000. The MZ-R900 top model of that year. Still have it, still works fine, use it almost every day! So… if it ain’t broke, why fix it, right? MD works for me… I’ve got my money back from all these years of use.

I’m never going to buy a new MD unit though. When my MD machine finally dies one of these days… I’ll just go on ebay and buy a replacement top model non-USB old school MD for under $80.

doonlordis, isnt there a very slim Hi-MD unit on offer? I recalled seeing one before. I also have a MZ-NH600 Hi-MD unit... but haven't been exactly recording much in Hi-MD mode, as I still prefer using my E10 for playback.

I have an MZ-R70, and I love it for it's funk factor.

BBE and Class D digital amps have nothing at all to do with eachother. One is a set of algorithms to enhance sound in certain ways: BBE, while the other is just an amp which uses very little power to operate: the HD amp.
