I know this is a headphone forum technically, but since the people here are by far the friendlist and helpful out of all the message boards I've ever encountered, I figure I'd post this question here.

I'm venturing into the world of HDV for the first time, and am looking for a desktop replacement laptop to use for editing and rendering all my footage- for $2000 or less. I've copied and pasted a similar posting I made on notebooksreview.com to give you a better idea of what I'm looking for:

General Questions

1) What is your budget?

$1500-$2000, 0% interest for 6-12 months preferred.

2) What size notebook would you prefer?

a. Ultraportable; 12" screen or less
b. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen

3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?

HDV editing, audio recording.

4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?

Occasional travel.

5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?

Nay.

6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

Nay.

7) How many hours of battery life do you need?

Not that important- 1-2 hrs minimum should be fine.

8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?

Don't mind.

9) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in?

USA.

10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?

Widescreen only.

11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?

Widescreen
d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
f. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.

12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?

Matte Only.

13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?

Nay.

14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?

3-4 years.

Notebook Components

15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 160GB?

80 gb min, must be at least 7200 rpm. RAID dual hard drive configuration preferred.

16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?

DVD-RW

Other requirements:
  • DVI Port
  • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
  • FAST GPU

Does a laptop like this exist- especially for the price range (<= $2000)? The MacBookPro is the only thing I've found thus far within the requirements, but it's a bit too much out of my price range.

Any suggestions from the Head-Fi film & video community out there?
