My avatar is an animated .gif but it's not animated here. If I use a remote server instead like imageshack then headfi complains that it is too large. It is only 30.3kb. Is it because it is .3kb over the limit?

I believe gifs are no longer allowed. Others who have theirs had them before the restriction. If it's any consolation, I can play your gif in my mind.

Yeah, probably because its 0.3kb over the limit.
Try with a smaller one, or even a static one.

I already did resize it, that's 42 frames I resized by 25% less and it is still .3kb over.

When you upload it to Head-fi's own system, it gets converted to JPEG if too large. That's why it doesn't move. You have to keep the original GIF small enough in order to prevent conversions happening.

Bingo, size limits are size limits for a reason. And animated gif's, well they're just kind of distracting, imho
