It seems like a lot of the closed recommendations have coiled cords, which I hate. Is there anything good around $100 that has a straight cord? I'm also considering the HD555 even though it's not closed simply because it's so cheap right now so any comparisons to that would be helpful.

Even though they've never been $100 I wish the CD1700's were still around. Unfortunately, I don't think there's much of a chance of me finding one of those.

The Audio Technica ES7's and the Denon D1001's are in that price range and neither have a coiled cord. These are both portables though and you never stated your preference. Both are very nice cans. The ES7's are better for isolation and the D1001's are more comfortable. Both are very nice sounding with a slight edge to the ES7's (IMHO).
