Ewok.. ill tell yuo 1 thing. You want get any better sound quality with the Minidisc. Encode all your CD's at 256kbit mp3, and with the excellent and stronger output at the iPod (than an MD) you will probably get even better sound. It takes you just 10 sec. to transfer a CD to the iPod, and it takes you about 10 minutes to encode a cd to mp3 with lame encoder and exact audio copy software. You get superior sound quality, and most people agree that there is no difference to hear between 256kbit mp3 and CD.
You get

- Nice and cool device, small and handy, just like a package of cigarettes.

- The ability to carry around 50-100 CD's (depending on wich bitrate you encode in)

- You get superior sound quality - maybe even better than MD.

- You get a device with Li-ion battery, with 10 hours of playback, and 1 hour of recharge - to make your battery 80% full.

- You get a portable harddrive..

All this for just $199. THAT IS A DAMN GOOD DEAL!!!
