I find headphones sound more interesting when you crank them up a little but I'm concerned about the impact on my hearing. Is there any cheap way to measure your listening level so you know whether you are listening at healthy or unhealthy SPL?

If you are using open headphones, then someone will almost undoubtedly be able to hear you a few metres away and likely in the next room too if the volume is turned up a little. Well, thats my experience with my HD555 anyway.

With open headphones I would make sure I could hear myself speaking while listening to music, or be able to here another person talking near me.
