Hey y'alls. Im considering purchasing the MEElectronics a161p IEMs, but I was wondering if any of you have any recommendations of other IEMs in relatively the same price range that I should check out before I buy.

I like a natural sound signature with a slightly forward midrange. A little extra bass isn't bad either as I will be using these for travel mainly. I am a little sensitive to hot treble but I don't like recessed treble.

Isolation is also obviously important, and soundstage and comfort are last on the priority list. Any suggestions are welcome!

Do you have any impressions on the isolation and sound?

I bought the RE-ZEROS for $69 last year and am very pleased with the value.

The RE-400 is the next generation...per ljokerl in his Multi-IEM review (http://www.head-fi.org/t/478568/multi-iem-review-292-iems-compared-lime-ears-le3-and-le3b-added-07-31-13-p-740)

Sound (8.9/10) – The RE-400 takes the place of the RE-ZERO in HiFiMan’s new, more streamlined lineup. For the most part it stays true to what we’ve come to expect from the RE-series earphones--its tone is mostly neutral and the sound is about as clean and transparent as it gets. The RE-400 seems to be endowed with a slightly more robust low end compared to the old RE-ZERO--there is a slight mid-bass lift audible with the newer model. This gives its bass a little more weight and depth and tilts the overall tone slightly in the “warm” direction compared to the RE-ZERO, RE272, and Etymotic ER-4S. This is not necessarily good or bad—those who want a ruler-flat bass will likely still prefer the 272, but it will allow the RE-400 to cater to a wider audience, which is a definitely plus in my book...The overall sense of space easily beats out similarly-priced sets such as the MEElec A161P and Ultimate Ears 600, and even offers slightly better depth than the older RE-ZERO.

I agree! I think ill be looking there more often if I ever want to get some more expensive IEMs.

BTW, do the RE-400s need an amp? or are they good un amped? I will mainly be using them with my iphone 5. I have a fiio e11 that i could use with a line out cable, but if there any better amps/dacs that I should check out I certainly will.

Thanks!

I would like to suggest the RockIt R50, check out ljokerl's multi-iem thread for his take. As for my take: I actually bought the a161p along with the R50.... I promptly returned the a161p after hearing the R50. Now, I really enjoyed the a161p for a few days, its got great sound! The a161p has a better overall package, it has a mic/button, a better selection of tips, a computer cable adapter, removable over the ear guides.... A really nice value overall!! However, when the R50 came, I instantly noticed it had more sparkle and a better soundstage. So, purely on sound, I felt it was worth the extra $$.
I have not heard the RE400, but gathering from this community, its fantastic and a value champion. You probably cant go wrong with that purchase either!
Good Luck, and Happy Listening!

I typically listen through my Clip Zip...but I do think they sound a little better through the e10
