I've now watched 11 episodes of Hajime no Ippo. In the last episode he had his debute pro match.

I think the story is great. It hooked me right away. The drawing isn't that great. I don't like the style in Hajime no Ippo at all. With that style it isn't possible to draw beautiful women like in NGE or FMP.

Ippo's voice sucks also. It irritates me. Also it's pretty annoying that Ippo acts like some retard all the time. He appears to be totally dumb some times.

Music is ok and animation is nice too. I like the slow motions in matches. Atmosphere is greeat also.

Looking back on second or third viewing, I agree about the art of HnI, but the first time through, I had no complaints at all. I have no problem with his voice. His character is supposed to be that way. It's supposed to be funny. Part of the culture...might help if you watched more live action Japanese stuff

If you can't take ippo, heaven help you when you watch what they do in real life!

Well I've watched 11 episodes in 4-5 days now so I guess I can take it pretty well. My posting may give an impression that I dislike HnI but it's not so. Those problems are pretty minor compared to the positive things like the story and characters. Very good series this far and I will watch it through.

HnI is one of my top five, no question. When they do a good anime on mixed martial arts, they'll probably botch it, so there's no point hoping for one

It even gets better and better towards the end. Wait to till you see the Dempsey Roll episodes. Absolutely intense with great music backing it all up.

they both have some quixotic sense of humor, and try hard to crack a joke every chance they get, trying to look innoucous while they are at it.

the difference is that miu can actually make people laugh at times ("majidejima") unlike tomo

Of course not. English in anime sucks so bad. I watch anime always with Japanese voices.

Totally agree, there's just something to the Japanese language that really lends itself well to emotional outpouring. Switch over to English and more often than not the whole anime just falls flat on its face. I think being that Japan is where anime all started, and just the way anime is geared towards older audiences, there's just more talented seiyuus in Japan. They know how to throw themselves into the moment. Some of the really great ones I've heard to date are the seiyuus behind Shinji and Misato from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Kurumi from Steel Angel Kurumi, and Chidori from Full Metal Panic.
