I have recently got two 540gold(600ohm and 300ohm). I have no desktop amp though I have supermaco3V6. I have target on Corda Aria. But, somebody state that it does not have enough power to drive the 600ohm stuff.
I can spend about around $600 on it. Also, I prefer solid state amp.

Unless there is a specific reason why you'd like to hang on to the HD 540, with a budget of $600 I would suggest getting some better headphones first, e.g. some newer Sennheisers such as the HD 580, 600 or 650.

I do have 650. But, I don't like the sound of it.

That would be enough budget for both a decent amp (needn't even be buffered for a 600 ohm oldie, but should have enough voltage swing) *and* some other cans (DT880, maybe?). Without some EQ, the 540s are just too much in the highs. BTW, when buying new earpads for the 540 Gold, make sure you order the foam pieces (#32950, IIRC) as well.

sgrossklass, thanks for your idea.

I want to know any brand and product. I don't want to explain why I stick at 540 not other headphone here. Instead, I do want to look for amp here.

I have the 540 rII and they are a bit bright with any amp/source. They sound very good with my Headroom Micro (DM). I have not found them to be difficult to drive with various pre-amps and receivers (mid-fi) either but the bass improves with dedicated headphone amps. Mine are 300 ohm. Good luck.

Indeed, my old 600 ohm HD540 isn't hard to drive either, relatively speaking of course (both HD430 and HD420SL require more juice, and their drivers even post slightly less DC resistance as per my ohmmeter). Actually, with some EQ to tame the highs (like 4 kHz @ -4 dBx2 and 10 kHz @ -7 dBx2), it's quite pleasant to listen to on the iAudio G3 at a volume setting of little more than 25 (out of 40). Just for fun, I tried whether the DT231 (a notoriously insensitive 32 ohm 'phone) would require the same volume setting (now that would've been something...

), but luckily for the Beyer, it can make do with about 4 or 5 less for the same volume... doesn't sound nearly as balanced though (usual sucked-out upper mids and tizz-tizz going on in the highs), which was to be expected and also is why it's usually packed away in its box these days.
