Is your WA2 by chance quieter than your 6SE?

 
agreed. i only listen to the HD 800 and T1 on the WA2 because i find it to sound much better, its smoother and has a richer tone, though it does lose a bit of energy that the WA6-SE gives.
 
 
and yes, the WA2 is much quieter than the 6SE, there is almost zero noise on the WA2, and its constant regardless of gain.

the WA6-SE as mentioned, drives them very very well, being really loud at 9 o clock with 6GL7 or 6DR7 tubes.

 
To derail the thread a little further (sorry), would you say the T1's were a good pairing with the WA6-SE then....or at that point once you aren't going OTL anymore it loses something?

the T1 paired better with the WA2, there is more synergy, the T1 become smoother, have a more euphonic warmth to them in the midrange, and just sound really sweet. 
 
the WA6-SE sounds more bland with the T1. it still sounds good, but it tends to sound more neutral and flat. Someone looking for a more neutral and more accurate sound for their T1, the WA6-SE is a wonderful amp, its never harsh or bright, and its very detailed with a wider soundstage and more separation as well as a cleaner bass. but its not as full or sweet sounding as the WA2. The differences though are still small though and both have that woo audio sound to them.  Both are great amps, but theres just something special the WA2 has with the T1 that the WA6-SE doesn't. its almost a matter of preference, kinda like saying, some people prefer tubes for the T1, some prefer solid states like the A1 or the V200

funny how its an LCD-2 amp recommendation and it becomes a WA2/WA6-SE thread.
 
but yeah, WA6-SE is a great amp for the LCD-2, especially with upgraded tubes. its a much better sounding amp. tube rolling on both of these amps really changes the sound quite a bit, i was even surprised since at first i didn't think the WA6-SE would change much.  depending on your tubes, the WA6-SE can sound very close to the WA2 (in fact, with the sophia 274b and the 6ew7 tubes, both of which are smoother lusher tubes,  i find it to be quite similar to the WA2 with sylvania 7236 tubes, a tube which helps make the WA2 more focused and tighter)

I think both BHA-1 and Mjolnir could help change the tonality of the LCD-2's a bit. They're aggressive amps,
with good details and good sound-staging. Although, I don't find, say, the LCD-3 to be an HD800 through either amp, for example.

Your best bet would be to upgrade to the LCD-3. To retain that Audez'e sound, visceral bass,beautiful mids, with the addition
of that added airyness that you're searching for.

I'm thinking about the LCD-3s more seriously cause I always think that headphones should change the sound the most.

Interesting  question from my point of view. I am relatively new to head-fi but already a loyal Audeze / Shiit customer. I have LCD-2s. I started with the Schiit Lyr/Bifrost combo and really had no complaints but seeking more from my LCD-2s and also looking for a bit of a change, I upgraded to the Mjolnir/Gungnir DAC/amp. I certainly like what I hear. Of course there is the difference between SS and tubes. Now I am looking for my next step. I love the Audeze product/sound/service and I am very pleased with my Schiit. For my next $1000 I have decided to move to the LCD-3s.

Thanks for your input. I'm having an eye on the Mjolnir,too. Do you think the Mjolnir's soundstage is an upgrade over the Lyr's???

well yes... bigger better more dynamic moving to the more powerful amp; since I changed out both pieces at the same time I can't really comment on just the amp or just the DAC but as you would hope and expect the new setup is a step up for sure.

Agree with all Dubstep Girl said (well she's been like my advisor along with few others when it comes to new purchase and I liked all of them lol)
I don't know which version of LCD2 you have, but WA6SE will most likely help with congestion problem with right tubes
when I order my LCD2(Rev2 with new connector some of them call it a Rev2.5) I was little worried about it being too dark and somewhat congested since a lot of people said its sound signature is close to HD650.
but when I actually paired LCD2 with WA6SE it wasn't dark for my taste at all. it is somewhat netunal, punchy, dynamic and most of all it doesn't sound congested to my ears at all .
maybe it's because I paired it with WA2, Soloist and Gilmore Lite when I had HD650
So far my favorite tubes for LCD2s are 596 + 6DR7
