Thanks for the tips on how to manage the Y-junction on a double sided headphone rewire. I think I am going with the pipe+heatshrink routine.

At this point my plan is to just try a Canare Mini StarQuad wire, to a right angle Neutrik connector, leading upto the Y. However, I want to ask what do you do with the pair of wire leading up to each driver? Do you simply do a twist of the signal+ground pair and heat shrink each side? I read about Litz braiding but that only works for 3 wires plus and probably won't work, right?

I thought about using Litz braided SPC teflon for the cable, but I think for this first one I'm going simple and just use the Canare mic cable.
