gents,

looking for a nice dac with a budget of $1000.

specifically I am looking for one that is neutral and can do full surround 5.1 decoding as well.

any recommendations or any of the more popular ones to stay away from?

like stuff that will not do 5.1 at all?

Very few external "hifi" dacs I know of do 5.1 You may have to look at a denon receiver or something similar. NAD maybe?

i guess my concern is that if the DAC receives a 5.1 signal, I do not want it to choke. thats all.

I think what is commonly done for 5.1 is 1 DAC per channel. each speaker recieves its own converstion but im just a beginner...
