I tried a few combinations of cans and amps;

1) Grado HP2 with Grace M902 and SP MPX3 SE Extreme
2) AKG K1000 with BAT VK75SE and Grace and MPX3
3) STAX 007Mk2 with STAX 007t and Headamp KGSS (first one made by Justin)

Source was a CARY 306SACD player and the preamp was a Sonic Euphoria (passive). Cables were Acoustic Zen balanced and unbalanced. Balanced power via an Equi=Tech unit.

Simply put, the 007Mk2 and the KGSS drew me into the music more than the others, by quite a bit. This combination seemed more detailed yet not edgy, much less veiled, and a better low end than the others. I could go on and on but suffice it to say this combination made me WANT to listen to music and that is a very good thing that few audio related items can easily do.

Maybe I'm off base here but the 007Mk2 and KGSS blew the competiton away IMHO. I still have a little experimenting to do but I think I am approaching my headphone Nirvana. I would like to hear the 007Mk2 with a couple of different amps, if possible, such as the soon to be released BHSE and the SP ES.

I have discovered that electrostatics are VERY special in my humble experience. Any thoughts on my subjective conclusion?

Nice comparison. However, don't you think that you conclude the result quite earlier. You should try the AKG K1000, HP2(Ear HP4) with a better amp and you will be surprised at their sound.

BAT VK75SE is one hell of an amp. If they don't sound good with it they will not improve much with anything

Never heard the SR-007MK2 or the HP2 though. But love the SR-007(BL) and K1000
