Hi. I need an amp around $100 that I can just plug in the wall and leave and when I come back from school can just plug in my phone and headphones and listen to music! It DOESNT need to be portable. Needs to be the best in that price range!

PAV2V (Pocket Amplifier 2 Version 2), sells on eBay for around $60-$65.

Might consider sells off the HD555 and put all cash towards new headphones.

Like what headphone? And should I consider getting that amp? Is it good? Better than a non portable one?

The PAV2V can function like a desktop amp or run off it's batteries.

I agree.
Use that money to upgrade headphones.

Yeah, but better phones may require headamp. Then what? Used HD555 he may sell for $100 if he's lucky, then for $200 the selection of decent phones is nice, but the upgrade does not make serious sence if you drive it by poor source.

I would recommend modification of HD555 (foam or soundstage) + buy a nice headamp like FiiO E07K Andes.
By the way what source do you use with HD555?

I use mine modded HD555 with FiiO E9i, it gives a decent result.

Really? if he buy another set of low impedance headphones that's not a must.

Modding is not a bad idea though.

Yes and no. Low impedance allows to easy drive the phones, however having a headamp for a good phones gives better results (small changes but still).

I would start with modding, then think about upgrade.
