So last week my pair of Urbanites arrived after deciding on them. Now I use it for both my computer and iPhone 5. They are better than the previous pair I had but I think they could sound much better with a dedicated amp. Obviously my iPhone 5 is kinda crappy at delivering good audio despite these headphones being 18 ohms. Some songs'' volume is too low and it can start crackling with certain songs, this has always been a problem with this phone. In generally I think these can sound a lot better.

So should I get a portable amp for them? Somewhere in the 50-100 euro range, I'm sure anything is better than my iPhone 5. Or should I invest in a DAC?

DAC wouldn't make a difference. Urbanite XL bass cracks when you push the volume, the On Ear Urbanite is much louder and is fine at max volume.

Fiio E6, at about $40 is pretty good for Urbanite XL

I was thinking that. I read that a DAC/amp combo would only use the Amp part on a phone. How do I bypass the phones amp altogether?
