Recently acquired the Senn HD 25-1 ii. Digging it big time!

I've read that a cable upgrade and an amp would do wonders to improve the sound. So i'm on a quest to do just that.

For the cable I'm probably going the stock HD580/600/650 route. Nothing too expensive.

Need some advice on an amp though.

I need something that would complement the HD 25-1. I love the intimate, lush, somewhat warm sound. Tight bass with impact.

Read Skylab's extensive review. And the Practical Devices XM4 sounds like what I might want but I'm not too sure. The Cord 2MOVE sounds even better. Of course both these amps have new revs out.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks in advance!

Ah we're in the same boat matey. It seems like the HD 25-1 aren't as popular as say the HD650 or AKG K701s eh. My prev cans were the Beyer DT 150 and those were practically unheard of around here yeah.

Bump Bump Bump! Calling all HD 25-1 owners! What amp dya pair your cans with and why? = )

I didn't think they benefited much from either a gilmore lite or a mini3. They are very sensitive and sounded, imho, about as good out of an iphone or shuffle as they ever will.

Since your HD25-1 are primarily used as a portable solution (I've owned/own HD25 Concorde, HD25-1, HME25, and HD25-13). Given their pretty minimal needs (despite the 600 ohm rating for the HME and HD25-13) - I usually go with a XIn Supermini sourced by a Nano........a highly convenient and pocketable setup. When ordering the Xin for this use, I ask Dr. Xin to use combination of AD8656 and 8616 opamps.
I've been waiting for a Pico since June (presumably to be shipped this coming week) so, have no experience using it with these Senns.. My other current amps are a P51 Mustang, and a Xin (beta[need to send board in for B type update]) Reference.
