Hello,
I just about the purchase the Paradigm Atoms and was wondering if there where any suggestions for amps to drive them.  I was thinking that it would be something like Laptop --> Gamma 2 DAC -->  ??????? ---> Atoms.  I am not sure if I need a preamp, but if I do I would like it to be paired with the amp to make it an amp/preamp combo.  Unfortunately I am on a budget of around $300.  One suggestion that has been given to me is the Onkyo M-5010.  Any and all other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I don't believe your DAC has a built-in volume control (digital or otherwise) so you would need a preamp with the Onkyo. No need for a preamp if you get an integrated amplifier.

Perhaps you can find a used Marantz PM5004 (new, $449), well regarded by Stereophile:

There's a used Cambridge Audio 350A on Audiogon for $279:

You might also want to audition the NAD C316 BEE (new, $379):

Teac AH01 for $341 on amazon.com.

Great desktop amp (has a built-in DAC as well)

If you have room for a full sized 2 channel receiver, I use the HK 3390. Works very well. Since it is a receiver, has all the preamp functionality built in, including a remote control and subwoofer line out.
