I would like to know if an old, regular speaker amp will improve my headphone sound on the pc. I'm ampless, and broke, that's why ;p

My question is: Will such an amp improve my sound quality?

Possibly, depends on your ears and what they like, and also the gear you have to please them.

If you mean you are looking to possibly purchase a new Amp, my advice would be to look for a cheap, good quality 2 channel amp (loads around for good prices).

If possible, try both with and without amp to compare and see if you hear an improvement. I am confident that there is an amp out there that will suit your budget and musical tastes that will provide an improvement.

Receivers are generally cheaper than amps..

There are just so *many* of them around.

And yeah, a decent one will probably make your phones sound better than driving them straight out of the soundcard.

I'm using a Yamaha RX500U stereo receiver and it will drive my very inefficient Yamaha HP-3 orthodynamic phones as loud as I can stand them, something my soundcard itself won't even come close to doing.
